The national carrier, Maldivian, has announced that Mulee Airport in Meemu Atoll will start operating flights starting 17 June 2025. The developmental project of Muli Airport was signed between the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and the Maldives National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Ministry (now known as the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure) on 28 February 2021.

The developmental project, totalling a value of MVR221.733 million, was set to reach completion by 2022. This included the reclamation of 14 hectares of land, 1,812 metres of coastal protection, and the construction of a 1,200-metre by 30-metre runway, complete with a taxiway and an apron. However, the project faced some hurdles and delays – leading to the project being completed and test flights being conducted by Maldivian on 25 April 2025.

Now that this much anticipated project is completed, Maldivian has announced that the first flight for the Muli Airport is scheduled for the 17th of next month – which will be a direct flight from the capital city Male’ to Muli. The direct trip between the capital city and the island of Mulee will now be a short 35-minute trip, making it easier for the residents of Meemu Atoll to travel to Male’ City.

With the announcement of the upcoming flight to Muli, Maldivian has also started the pre-sale of tickets for travellers who have been waiting to explore an easy route between Male’ city and Muli.
