The Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) announced the hosting of the second Local Runway Safety Team (LRST) meeting of the year on 17 December 2025.
The meeting was chaired by MACL’s CEO & MD, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. According to the company, LRST is a committee established at Velana International Airport in accordance with regulations set by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority. These meetings are set in order to ensure a strong focus on runway safety, having a plan containing action items for mitigating runway safety deficiencies, and to regularly review compliance with standards and recommended practices.
The LRST meeting hosted by MACL on 17 December was attended by several key stakeholders, including MCAA, local airline operators, Maldives National Air Traffic Services (MNATS), and representatives from the Pilots’ and Air Traffic Controllers’ Association, with productive discussions agreeing on action items for further collaboration.
The LRST plays a crucial role in maintaining safety and efficiency on aerodromes.
