Emirates has moved its operations to Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport on 21 December 2025.
A ceremonial water salute marked the arrival of the first Emirates flight. As the largest international airline in the world, Emirates offers extensive global connectivity. Arriving passengers were welcomed by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mr. Ibrahim Thoriq, Country Manager – Sri Lanka and Maldives, Emirates, Mr. Jaber Mohamed, distinguished representatives of Emirates, along with MACL’s Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Mujthaba Latheef, and the company's Exco members.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting officially also marked the commencement of Emirates operations at Velana International Airport Terminal 1 on the same day, signifying the opening of the airline’s check-in counters.
