In celebration of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to highlight the importance of empowering MSMEs. In his post, the president went into the importance of inclusive financing, improved access to markets, as well as the administration's vision for creating an environment where MSMEs thrive and contribute to the economy.

On this Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day, we celebrate the entrepreneurs and innovators driving sustainable growth across our islands and around the world. We remain committed to empowering MSMEs through inclusive financing and improved access to markets. Building on the success of Maldives Expo 2025, we continue to strengthen the ecosystem in which small businesses can thrive. My administration remains steadfast in creating an environment where MSMEs thrive, contributing significantly to our economic diversification as we aim to become a developed nation by 2040.
Dr Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Maldives.

In addition to shedding light on strengthening MSMEs, the President also discussed the work that the administration will be carrying out in order to make the President's manifesto regarding tourism a reality. In his post, President Dr Muizzu stated that in order to unlock the full potential of tourism across all atolls of the Maldives, atolls such as Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Thaa, Laamu, and Addu City will get a bigger focus as these atolls have been underserved throughout the years.

We will do this through a multi-pronged approach of targeted concessions, incentives, investments in public infrastructure, and focused marketing strategies. These are designed to mobilize investments and catalyze further economic activities in these regions.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu

This announcement to focus on more neglected atolls when it comes to tourism also comes at a time when the public transportation and connectivity across atolls in the Maldives have started improving. As of 26 June 2025, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has introduced the "Rajje Transport Link" (RTL) high-speed ferry services in Raa Atoll, marking the 10th atoll that the services have managed to connect through RTL. This progress is also set to continue to expand as MTCC is anticipating further expansion to connect to Baa Atoll by the end of July.

Moreover, the President also announced the expansion of halal tourism in the Maldives. In his post on X, President Dr Muizzu announced that the Government will be designating several islands, exclusively for the development of halal tourism. Although the concept of halal tourism already exists in the Maldives to some extent, this exclusivity will take halal tourism in the country to the next level.

This will be accompanied by major incentives for investors, helping to diversify and enhance our product offerings.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu

With further details regarding the government's vision for the expansion of halal tourism and the development of tourism in underserved atolls expected in the coming week, the announcements made on Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day underscore a broader national agenda focused on inclusivity, regional equity, and sustainable economic growth.
