The Maldives and Philippines Sign MoU on Political Consultations

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, this MoU was signed in order to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the nations and to foster a cooperative partnership between the nations.

On 26 September 2025, the Maldives and the Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The MoU was signed by His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Maldives, and Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, Secretary For Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines on behalf of the country.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, this MoU was signed in order to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the nations and to foster a cooperative partnership between the nations. The Maldives and the Philippines are expected to promote the common interests in both countries, as the MoU serves as a framework to effectively implement key understandings and agreements reached between the two governments, and promote exchanges and cooperation in various areas between the two countries.
