On 14 May 2025, the President’s Office of the Maldives commenced the Executive Development Program (EDP) 2025-2027 – an initiative which is led by the Political Appointees Performance Management (PAPM) unit at the Political Affairs Office (PAO). This program is being carried out in collaboration with the Civil Service Training Institute (CSTI) and the Foreign Services Institute (FOSIM). With the commencement of the program, the inaugural session of the EDP was held at the auditorium of the King Salman Mosque, marking a step towards better leadership and governance in the Maldives.
The first session of the EDP was delivered by Afeef Hussai, who spoke on the topic ‘Leading and Transforming a Nation Through a Service Excellence Culture”. With the introduction of EDP, the Maldives’ government is working to introduce capacity-building initiatives that are designed to enhance the performance of senior government executives, including political appointees in government ministries. The inaugural session of the EDP was attended by a large number of participants from all the government ministries as well as government institutions.
According to the President’s Office, the EDP program will focus on key areas such as enhancing managerial skills, organisational effectiveness, best practices, and inter-agency coordination. In order to create a more efficient government, the EDP program will be delivered to its participants through interactive lectures, seminars, workshops, and expert-led dialogues.
