This initiative, unveiled during the 59th Independence Day celebrations, promises to provide much-needed support and resources to media outlets across the nation.
For years, Maldivian media companies have faced numerous challenges, including limited access to adequate office space and production facilities. The new media village aims to address these issues, offering a comprehensive solution that could revolutionize the local media industry.
The media village will be located in Hulhumale', utilizing space from the halted hotel project initially undertaken by the State Trading Organization (STO). This project, which had faced multiple financial and logistical setbacks, has now been repossessed by the government. President Muizzu announced that several floors of the building will be allocated for media use, providing affordable office spaces under specific guidelines.
Those premises are now repossessed by the government. Some floors of that building will be used to set up the media village. For a small rate, each media will be granted space under some guidelines to run their offices.
The media village will feature state-of-the-art studios and production facilities, catering to the diverse needs of television stations and other media entities. This initiative is expected to provide unprecedented opportunities for media production in the Maldives, elevating the quality and reach of local journalism.
Studios of different levels will be built there. We will provide the production space and resources needed for TV stations. We will provide never before seen levels of golden opportunities for media there.
