President Dr Muizzu makes first official visit to Malaysia
During the press conference, President Muizzu invited Malaysian investors to explore a range of opportunities in the Maldives, particularly highlighting the Special Economic Zones, business sectors, financial services, the maritime economy, and the growing digital economy of the Maldives.
On 28 April 2025, the President of the Maldives, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, made his first official visit to Malaysia – a country that has had diplomatic relations with the Maldives since 1986. The President was welcomed into the country by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, in Putrajaya.
The welcoming ceremony was marked with the presentation of the First Salute by the Guard of Honour, followed by the playing of the national anthems of both countries. Following the welcoming ceremony, President Muizzu was introduced to Malaysian cabinet ministers and senior government officials, while members of the Maldivian delegation were introduced to the Prime Minister.
Following the initial ceremonies, a joint press conference was hosted between both nations — focusing on highlighting shared values, economic collaboration, and support for global peace efforts. During the press conference, President Muizzu invited Malaysian investors to explore a range of opportunities in the Maldives, particularly highlighting the Special Economic Zones, business sectors, financial services, the maritime economy, and the growing digital economy of the Maldives.
