Practical work begins on new health centre in H.Dh Kumundhoo

The facility is expected to reduce the need for residents to travel to nearby islands or Malé City for medical care, saving both time and expenses while ensuring easier access to modern healthcare.

On 27 August 2025, a ceremony was held to officially inaugurate the start of practical work on the development of a new building for the Haa Dhaalu Kumundhoo Health Centre.

The event was attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, the Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), DCP (RETD) Ahmed Saudee, the President of Kumundhoo Council, along with several senior government officials.

According to MTCC, once completed, the new health centre will significantly improve healthcare services for the 1,515 residents of Kumundhoo. The facility is expected to reduce the need for residents to travel to nearby islands or Malé City for medical care, saving both time and expenses while ensuring easier access to modern healthcare.

The project involves the construction of a two-storey building spanning 7,800 square feet. Works will include excavation, masonry, concrete works, tiling, installation of doors and windows, plastering, metal and hydraulic works, drainage, electrical wiring, and the installation of key systems such as medical gas, air conditioning, and fire safety equipment.

Valued at MVR27.26 million, the project is scheduled for completion within 360 days. MTCC has stated that the new health centre will play a vital role in strengthening the island’s healthcare infrastructure and improving the overall well-being of its residents.
