The government of the Maldives has taken significant steps to enhance the infrastructure and facilities in Hulhumale’ Phase II to meet the growing needs of its expanding population. As thousands of families have relocated to the newly developed housing flats in the area, there has been an increasing demand for essential services such as schools, hospitals, and other community facilities within accessible distances. Among these priorities, addressing the shortage of educational institutions has become a pressing issue for authorities.

In response, the government has launched an initiative to establish new schools in Hulhumale’ Phase II, aimed at easing the burden on the existing schools in Phase I. To facilitate this, the Ministry of Education had signed an agreement with Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) to build a state-of-the-art school in the area. The new school is designed to accommodate 1,400 students and will play a vital role in addressing the growing demand for educational placements as families continue to settle in Phase II.

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu provided updates on the project, confirming that construction is on track for completion by 2025, with the school slated to open its doors to students in January 2026. The minister highlighted the importance of this project in alleviating the pressure on schools in Phase I, which have faced significant strain due to the population surge in Phase II. He also emphasized that the new school will be equipped with modern facilities to provide a high standard of education for students in the area.

In addition to the new school in Phase II, the government is also making efforts to expand the capacity of existing schools in Hulhumale’ Phase I. Plans are underway to add 18 to 20 new classrooms to existing schools, ensuring that they can accommodate the growing student population.

The development of these educational facilities is part of a broader strategy to transform Hulhumale’ Phase II into a fully functional urban center with comprehensive services for its residents. As the population of Hulhumale’ continues to grow, the government has acknowledged the need for well-planned infrastructure that caters to the diverse needs of the community, including healthcare, recreational facilities, and public transportation.

By investing in education infrastructure, the government aims to ensure that every child in Hulhumale’ has access to a nurturing and conducive learning environment, thereby laying the foundation for a brighter future for the next generation. With the planned completion of the school by 2025 and its opening in 2026, Hulhumale’ Phase II will take another step forward in becoming a self-sufficient and thriving community.
