On 21 November 2025, Maldives Immigration issued an update regarding the nationwide rollout of the e-Visa system, an initiative that was officially launched on 10 November 2025. The announcement, shared via the agency’s official X account, outlined several major changes that will take effect from 23 November 2025.
According to the notice, physical work visa stickers in passports will no longer be considered valid after 23 November. Instead, all existing work visas currently endorsed in passports will be automatically converted to e-visas. From that date onward, only the digital e-visa will be recognised as a valid work visa in the Maldives.
The agency further stated that, starting 23 November, travellers will be permitted to depart the Maldives only if they hold a valid e-visa. The validity of the e-visa will directly correspond to the validity period of the individual’s work permit.
Maldives Immigration also highlighted new requirements for expatriates entering the country. Beginning 23 November, newly arriving expatriates must possess a valid Entry Pass issued by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology in order to be granted entry.
These updates form a key part of the Maldives’ ongoing efforts to modernise and streamline its immigration processes through digital systems.
