The Department of National Registration (DNR) is one step closer to achieving its aim of providing ID card services across all the atolls of the Maldives by the end of 2025. On 28 June 2025, the DNR announced that ID card services are now available in Haa Alif Hoarafushi - making it possible to get national ID cards printed as well as handed over on the island itself.
With this service now available in Hoarafushi, residents of the island will no longer have to travel in order to get their ID card services, as it will be readily available in Hoarafushi itself. The introduction of ID card services in Hoarafushi marks the 23rd island that DNR has introduced these services.
While this marks a great feat for DNR, the office is also working on establishing the same services in countries that Maldivians commonly reside in. In order to accomplish this aim, DNR has recently managed to successfully establish these services in Malaysia and aims to introduce the services in India as well as Sri Lanka.
