Application opened for 'Housing for All' policy

On 18 January 2026, the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure has officially opened for application for the first housing scheme under the administrations 'Housing for All' policy.

The housing policy, which was announced in November 2025, is set to allocate 15,000 plots of land and 7,900 flats, with the application process being done fully online through the government's housing portal -Boahiyaavahikan.housing.gov.mv

According to the portal, a total of 1,250 acres from the Greater Male' Area as well as the Rasmale' Area will be allocated towards this initiative.

The portal urges applicants for land to submit their application before 23:59 hrs on 04 March 2026. Additionally, the portal also noted the deadline for the flat applications as 17 April 2026, at 23:59 hrs.

This opens up opportunities for a large number of applicants to stand a chance for both land as well as housing, as 10,000 plots are reserved for residents of Male' city, while 3,000 plots are for non-residents, and 500 plots are designated for predeceased heirs, and 1,500 plots are alocated from citizens relocating from narrow lanes in the city.

Additionally, 4,000 flats are designated for Male' City residents, while 1,500 are for residents of other islands, with 2,400 categoised for special priority residents.
