In a shocking turn of events, President Joe Biden has announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2024 presidential race. Sharing a lengthy post via X on July 21st, 2024, the President of the U.S. officially declared that he is stepping away from the presidential race, stating that he will solely focus on fulfilling his duties as the President for the remainder of his term. The 2024 presidential race for the upcoming president of the United States has been filled with surprises, as the opposing candidate Donald Trump had an attempted shooting at one of his rallies, now followed by the news of current president Joe Biden stepping away from the re-election. This decision marks a significant moment in U.S. political history, ending months of speculation about the 81-year-old president's future.

Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States on January 20, 2021. His presidency has been marked by significant achievements and notable challenges. From his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic to his ambitious legislative agenda, Biden's tenure has left an indelible mark on the nation as well as the world. Though his supporters are vocal about his success in handling the COVID-19 situation with nationwide vaccination campaigns as well as his climate change initiatives, as of late, Joe Bidens presidency has not been without major controversy. In the past few months, critics have dubbed him "Genocide Joe," a moniker arising from various international policies and military actions which has contributed to humanitarian crises, especially in regard to the ongoing genocide against the people of Palestine as the U.S continues to arm Israel with weapons as well as the blatant refusal to acknowledge the war-crimes being committed on a daily basis.

Although these poor decisions to support the ongoing genocide while overlooking major issues in the U.S. have led to many voicing out for a change in the political system, recent months have raised yet another concern regarding the president’s health. Observers have noted instances of visible fatigue and occasional verbal gaffes, fueling speculation about his physical and cognitive fitness. Despite assurances from his medical team about his overall health, the topic has remained a persistent point of discussion in the media and among voters.

In a statement following his announcement regarding his decision to exit the 2024 race, President Biden emphasized the importance of continuity and stability. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate, expressing confidence in her leadership and vision for the country.

My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.

As the Democratic Party prepares for the 2024 election, Biden's decision to step aside and endorse his Vice President marks a significant shift in the political landscape. The coming months will be crucial as Harris and her campaign team start the work to build on the administration's achievements and address the challenges ahead.
