A devastating knife attack in Southport, northwest England, has left the community in mourning after three young girls were killed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29, 2024. The incident, which also injured ten others, has sparked shock and grief across the nation.

The attack occurred at The Hart Space on Hart Street, where children were attending a dance and yoga workshop. According to witnesses, the scene quickly turned into chaos as a 17-year-old suspect, who has since been taken into custody and charged, began attacking attendees with a knife. The police have not yet established a clear motive but have confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terror-related.

The 17-year-old cannot be named for legal reasons as he's under 18. Whilst these charges are a significant milestone within this investigation, this remains very much a live investigation and we continue to work with our partners from Lancashire police and counter-terrorism police in the north-west.

The victims have been identified as six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice Santos, who was set to turn ten in October. The attack has left the families and the broader community in shock, with many struggling to comprehend the tragedy.

Thousands gathered for a vigil to honor the victims, laying flowers and cuddly toys at the scene. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper were among those who paid their respects, emphasizing the profound impact of the incident on the nation.

While the community and the families are still grieving over the loss following this horrific attack, things appear to have taken a turn for the worse in the U.K as far-right protests have started creating violent unrest near a mosque in northwest England on Tuesday June 30th, 2024. The violent scenes took place right after the community hosted a peaceful vigil, where mourners laid wreaths, toys and candles as a tribute to the three girls who left their lives to this horrific attack. The violent protestors appear to take it out on the Muslim community, throwing bricks at a local mosque as well as setting cars and police vehicles alight.

As the scenes remained unsettled as the protests turned violent based on the speculations of the attacker, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives has also advised Maldivian travelers to take utmost caution when traveling to the UK.
