A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi encountered an accident in the Jofa region of East Azerbaijan province on Sunday, as reported by state media. The incident, attributed to harsh weather conditions and heavy fog, has led to a search operation to locate the president and other officials on board.

The helicopter was part of a convoy of three, the other two of which landed safely at their destination. The accident occurred in the mountainous forest area of Dizmar near the town of Varzaghan, complicating rescue efforts due to the challenging terrain and poor visibility. State television highlighted the difficulties faced by rescue teams in reaching the site due to the adverse weather.

The helicopter carrying Raisi was accompanied by Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other local officials. Reports from Tasnim news agency confirmed that the other two helicopters in the convoy had reached their destinations without incident.

Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi later stated that the helicopter made a hard landing due to bad weather conditions and that establishing communication with the aircraft has been challenging.

As of now, there are no updates on the condition of President Raisi or the other passengers.
