Although there was no doubt that things were going to get heated in the USA with the upcoming Presidential race, things took a turn for the worse as former U.S. President Donald Trump was injured in a shooting at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.

The attacker fired shots during the event, wounding Trump in the ear. Tragically, the incident also resulted in one fatality and several injuries among attendees. As of now, the motive of the shooter still remains unclear as the suspect was shot dead by Secret Service agents after he open-fired from the roof of a building. The Secret Service agents are reporting that the shooter fired from about 15 years from the stage where Trump was speaking, using an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle.

Trump, who is recovering from his injuries, expressed gratitude for the support he has received. The attack has raised significant concerns about security at political events. Questions are being asked about how the assailant managed to breach security measures, prompting calls for stricter protocols to protect public figures. The U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the motives behind the attack and to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Global leaders have condemned the violence, emphasising the importance of maintaining peace and upholding democratic values.
