Hospital in G.Dh Thinadhoo starts providing chemotherapy

In an important milestone for healthcare in G.Dh Thinadhoo, Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital has recently begun offering chemotherapy services as part of its comprehensive treatment offerings. This significant development signifies a major step forward in providing accessible and advanced cancer care for the local community. The introduction of chemotherapy services at the hospital brings hope and relief to countless patients and their families who previously had to travel long distances for such crucial treatments.

With this new development the hospital has enhanced its capacity to provide comprehensive care, particularly in the fight against cancer, which is turning into a major cocnern as the number of cancer patients has been increasing in an alarming rate in the Maldives. As this is the first time the region of G.Dh Thinadhoo is providing chemotherapy services, Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital is also working on training the doctors and nurses in order to fully equip them on how to give patients chemotherapy with utmost care with the assistance from Hulhumale’ hospital.

With this new development in Huvadhoo Atoll, patients now have acces to proper chemotherapy care in their own Atoll, and even islands nearby have an easier access to thi service instead of having to travel to the capital City, which is going to reduce the medical expenses of many cancier patients. Prior to this, patients were faced with the difficult deicision of spending a large sum of money on travelling to another City just to get chemotherapy, which is an unimaginable expense for anyone who knows the cost of travel and day-to-day life in the capital City.

In addition to this major development, Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial hospital also introduced laparoscopic surgery as well as advanced wound care services last week, further enhancing the services that are provided at the hospital.
