The Maldives has always made its stance clear
when it came to the genocide of Palestinians being carried out by Israel and
its Government. While the rest of the world might finally be picking up the
history book and re-evaluating their support for Israel’s rights to ‘protect
itself’, the Maldives has been long supporting the cause for a free Palestine,
where children, women and men of the nation can wake up to a world that allowed
them to get an education and live freely in a nation that was a safe space to
them.
The Genocide, which has picked up its
brutality since October 7th 2023, has garnered increasing media attention as of
late due to the many brave Palestinians reporting the horrendous war crimes
being carried out in Gaza by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and people around
the globe finally exposing the Government of the apartheid state Israel for the
blatant admission of genocide they are carrying out, many have opened up their
hearts and pockets to the Palestinian cause, finally shedding some light to the
situation which has been worsening by the year.
With this, the Maldives has yet again started
raising their voice, showcasing their support for a free Palestine through
gatherings and fundraiser events, blatantly calling out the genocide and
calling for the Maldivian Government to cut all ties with Israel and stop
acknowledging it as a real state just like the neighbouring country Bangladesh
had done years ago. And while the Maldivian Government has been giving a deaf
ear to this request by the vast majority of its citizens, there is one positive
highlight that came out of the efforts of Maldivians towards the Palestinian
cause.
While the Maldives has been donating to Palestine even prior to the IDF
starting its carpet bombing mission in Gaza since October 7th, according to the
International Aid Campaign (IAC) the Maldives has donated more than MVR 25
million to the cause.Maldives has yet again started raising their voice, showcasing their support for a free Palestine through gatherings and fundraiser events, blatantly calling out the genocide and calling for the Maldivian Government to cut all ties with IsraelMaldives has yet again started raising their voice, showcasing their support for a free Palestine through gatherings and fundraiser events, blatantly calling out the genocide and calling for the Maldivian Government to cut all ties with Israel
With reports of over 8,000 deaths coming out
of Gaza on 29th October 2023, following the complete telecommunication
blackout, the IAC has highlighted some of the ways in which the organisation
has been able to provide help to the Palestinians with the love of the many
Maldivian citizens who are fighting for the cause.
According to the IAC, prior
to the 7th of October, the organisation had been sending help in the form of
distributing food, oil and some essential supplies and later on a large number
of hot-meals were distributed to the public as well as hospital workers, who
have become heroes during this genocide. In addition to this, IAC also stated
that at the request of families, the organisation has also donated a total of
USD 1 million to 200 families across Gaza at the rate of USD 500 per family.
While our donations would have played a huge
role in helping the Palestinian community who have been facing the non-stop
brutality of the IDF with each passing day, people from Gaza have noted the
power of social media as well.
While donations are a great way to financially
help the people of Gaza, it has become increasingly important to continue
voicing out about the genocide and pushing our policy makers to make an
impactful decision that would put an end to this blatant massacre being carried
out by the IDF social media has become one of the most powerful tools during
this genocide, finally showing the true face of the Israeli Government,
creating a never-before-seen move towards the free Palestine cause, which has
resonated with a large majority of the population from across the globe.
