The Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) has launched an interactive Data Explorer portal to provide easy access to important official statistics on inflation, economic growth and population trends in the country.
The platform was launched on Monday to mark the fifth anniversary of the Statistics Act (Act No. 16/2021) which declared MBS a technically independent National Statistical Office.
The Data Explorer allows users to interactively view Consumer Price Index (CPI) information, National Productivity Index (GDP) statistics and population projections. This allows users to access and identify official information through a convenient and lightweight platform.
The platform aims to raise public awareness of the economic and population changes in the country.
The Statistics Act has strengthened the legal and institutional framework for the identification, management, control, and public awareness of official statistics in the country. Under this Act, the Chief Statistician is appointed by the President to head the MBS. The Ministry responsible for matters relating to this Bureau is the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises. The Bureau is operated under the direction of the Minister of Finance.
