Comments are open for the Consumer Protection Rules and Due Diligence Rules

The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has invited public comment on the Financial Consumer Protection Regulation and the Simplified and Electronic Customer Due Diligence Regulation.

The regulation of financial consumer protection aims to ensure the rights and protection of consumers of financial services. The Customer Due Diligence Rules are also intended to define the standards and requirements for identifying customers under the Prevention of Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism Act and ensuring the accuracy of that information.

The public can submit comments on these rules, which have been drafted in consultation with financial institutions and other relevant institutions, until 15:00 on Wednesday, August 26. Comments should be submitted via email to [email protected].
