Bank of Maldives has completed seven staff-led projects under its Community Impact Grant, supporting education and environmental initiatives across local communities.
Launched in 2025 to mark BML Islamic's 10th anniversary, the grant was introduced to deepen staff engagement with local communities. Through the initiative, BML employees partnered with schools, councils, community organisations and NGOs to deliver projects focused on education and the environment.
The seven completed projects are:
1. Outdoor Reading and Study Area, Seenu Atoll School – Led by BML Meedhoo Branch staff, this project created a shaded outdoor space with benches and tables for reading and group study.
2. Play Area, Thaa Atoll School – Led by BML Guraidhoo Branch staff, this project built a safe play area featuring a slide, swing, and sand and water play facilities.
3. Sitting area setup, GDh. Atoll School – Led by BML Gadhdhoo Branch staff, this project installed benches across the school grounds for students, staff, parents and visitors.
4. Student Resource Hub, Dharumavantha Hospital – Led by BML's Hussain Ali with the Maldives National University Students' Union and Dharumavantha Hospital, this project set up a resource hub with medical textbooks, digital learning materials, microscopes and other equipment for medical students.
5. Walkway, Muraidhoo School – Led by BML's Mariyam Hany with the Muraidhoo School PTA, this project built a walkway linking key areas of the school for safer, easier access.
6. Muraka Muraasil Citizen Scientists – Led by BML's Ahmed Maaidh Moosa, Mohamed Looth Khusham and Aminath Isra Jaufar with Farufoshi, this project produced 60 coral reef survey toolkits and an online data platform, training at least 20 citizen scientists to collect reef data.
7. Kudahuvadhoo Waste Reduction Initiative – Led by BML Kudahuvadhoo Branch staff with Dh. Kudahuvadhoo Council, this project installed a can crusher at the local Waste Management Centre to reduce waste volume and boost recycling participation.
Through the Community Impact Grant, BML continues to empower its employees to work directly with communities, delivering small-scale projects that create lasting social and environmental impact.
