Bank of Maldives partners with Parley Maldives for ocean conservation
Under the ENV POS initiative, for every transaction made through a BML Point of Sale (POS) terminal, the Bank will set aside a contribution from its earnings to fund environmental initiatives across the country – at no cost to the customer or the merchant.
The Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a strategic partnership with Parley Maldives for ocean conservation under its recently announced environmental initiative, ENV POS.
Under the ENV POS initiative, for every transaction made through a BML Point of Sale (POS) terminal, the Bank will set aside a contribution from its earnings to fund environmental initiatives across the country – at no cost to the customer or the merchant - directly contributing to saving the Maldives’ environment, protecting its islands and oceans, and ensuring a greener Maldives for generations to come.
The ocean is at the heart of the Maldivian way of life, yet plastic waste continues to be a persistent and growing threat, jeopardizing marine ecosystems and ocean resources. We are therefore immensely proud to partner with Parley to make a real difference by supporting their work to protect the oceans, reduce overall plastic use and create the future of materials. As an extension of this partnership, we are also looking forward to introducing our new bank cards made with Parley Ocean Plastic® from plastic intercepted in Maldives.
Mohamed Shareef, BML CEO and Managing Director
Through ENV POS, the Bank will support Parley in its efforts to export plastic waste for recycling to Germany, Taiwan and Malaysia as part of the Parley AIR strategy “Avoid. Intercept. Redesign.”
We are proud to collaborate with BML to make a meaningful impact on our marine environment and scale up Parley’s efforts to intercept plastics that would otherwise end up in our oceans. I am confident that this partnership will boost the movement towards a sustainable net-zero future for the Maldives.
Shaahina Ali, Executive Director of Parley Maldives
