It's not every day that news regarding Nasa astronauts catches headlines across the globe, however, Nasa astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore made global headlines as the pair found themselves stuck on a space mission for 286 days. Although the mission was initially planned to be a short eight-day trip that started out in June 2024, the pair found themselves stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) following technical issues on the Boeing spacecraft that launched them there.
Following the delays, the pair became a global sensation, as people across the globe became fascinated with both the horrifying curiosity and interest in how the two will survive the unplanned delays in space. After 286 days of waiting and longing to be reunited with the family, it is not being reported that both Suni and Burch are finally ready to come home, boarding a SpaceX craft which will bring the pair back to Earth.
By 8:19 am local time, the SpaceX Dragon capsule had closed with four astronauts on board - including Suni Williams, Butch Wilmore, Nasa astronaut Nick Hague and Aleksandr Gorbunov - with the capsule expected to land back on Earth around 22:00 GMT.
According to BBC, the SpaceX capsule is due to undock from ISS at 05:05 with the deorbit burns set to begin at 21:11 which is when the capsule will use its rockets to slow itself and re-enter the atmosphere. The final splashdown is scheduled for 21:57, which will finally mark the end of the space expedition for the astronauts.
