Velana International Airport has announced an expansion in air connectivity for the upcoming summer season, with Edelweiss Air introducing additional flights between Switzerland and the Maldives.
According to the announcement, Edelweiss Air will operate two additional weekly flights from 4 July to 13 September, strengthening travel links during a key peak travel period. The increase in frequency is expected to enhance accessibility for European travellers, particularly from the Swiss market, while supporting the Maldives’ tourism sector during the summer months.
The move reflects continued demand for long-haul leisure travel to the Maldives and aligns with broader efforts to diversify source markets and maintain steady tourist arrivals year-round. Improved connectivity from Switzerland is also anticipated to provide greater flexibility for travellers and tour operators, further reinforcing the Maldives’ position as a leading global holiday destination.
This seasonal expansion underscores the importance of strategic airline partnerships in sustaining tourism growth and ensuring consistent international access to the country.
